Meet Darrel Rushinko, a dedicated owner-operator driver who has played an essential role in the Roberge Transport team throughout his entire career in livestock hauling. As of now, he holds the distinction of being one of the longest-serving drivers at Roberge.
From an early age, Darrel’s passion for trucks ignited a lifelong dream of becoming a truck driver.

Darrel’s journey behind the wheel has taken him from grain trailers to flat decks, fuel, and eventually to the world of livestock. For Darrel, the livestock industry stands out as his favourite, not just for the cargo it carries but for the honesty and integrity he’s encountered in this niche.
Based at our Moose Jaw location, Darrel places great importance on the open lines of communication he enjoys with the entire dispatch office. This transparency and open-door policy have been the cornerstone of his enduring relationship with Roberge Transport.

In a pivotal shift post-BSE (Mad Cow), Darrel transitioned from hauling cattle to hogs. Now, approximately 90% of his work revolves around the transportation of hogs, a specialization that suits him well. “I prefer it,” Darrel admits. “I mostly haul specialized breeding stocks of hogs, which often entail longer trips, taking me south into the United States.”
This line of work may be more solitary, but Darrel revels in the freedom of the open road and good tunes along the way.

Beyond his trucking adventures, Darrel has managed to maintain a solid family life. Married to his wife, the couple share three sons and five beloved grandchildren. The trucking lifestyle can be demanding when it comes to balancing work and family, but Darrel is quick to acknowledge the support he receives from both his family and the trucking company.
“One of the perks of my job,” Darrel explains, “is the ability to craft my own schedule, allowing me to be home with my family when needed. It’s a flexibility that not every trucking company offers.”
Raised on a farm, Darrel’s background has endowed him with a deep understanding of the rigours of busy seasons, such as the fall cattle run. However, his association with Roberge has granted him the gift of a flexible working schedule, fostering a healthy work-life balance that’s a rarity in the trucking industry.
