Celebrating the Road Travelled: Honouring the Retirement of Long-Time Driver, Ed Wills

Our long-time driver is retiring. As we say goodbye, we want to take a moment to reflect on Ed’s journey with Roberge Transport and his experience driving in the industry.
Ed’s relationship with the open road began in 1987 when he first embarked on his professional driving career. A year later, he joined the Roberge family, where he honed his skills and became an integral part of the fleet. However, Ed’s story goes beyond driving.
From dispatching trucks to taking the reins as a driver, he has experienced both sides of the coin. When an opportunity arose for him to step into the world of dispatching at Roberge, he took it. This new role opened his eyes to the challenges faced by those dispatching. “Very few drivers realize what happens behind the scenes,” Ed reflects. “It was eye-opening, and I enjoyed it, but I was happy to get back on the open road.”

Ed’s love for cattle and the open road stems from his upbringing. Raised on a farm and surrounded by cattle, he was immersed in the ways of the trade from an early age. His father, a cattle buyer, instilled in him a deep appreciation of the animals. “The cattle always come first,” explains Ed.
Working at the Lloydminster stockyards during high school and spending countless hours with friends’ fathers who drove for Roberge further solidified Ed’s passion for the industry. His professional driving career was a natural progression from his upbringing.
Over the years, Ed’s dedication and commitment have expanded his skill set in various areas. He has honed his driving expertise, prioritized safety above all else, and become a master in cattle handling.
While skill and experience are essential, a driver’s journey is often defined by the company they keep. Ed’s loyalty stands with Roberge. “I have never experienced a late paycheck or an unpaid mile,” he explains. Roberge has always been there for me in support of my career.”

As Ed embarks on the next chapter of his life, retirement welcomes him with open arms. While his plans are yet to be fully defined, one thing is for certain: Ed’s well-deserved relaxation will commence by selling his trusted truck and embracing a laid-back summer. With seven grandchildren and a holiday trailer, he is sure to find joy in spending quality time with family.
As we celebrate Ed Wills, we honour a driver and a man who has left a mark on the industry. His dedication, loyalty, and passion will set an example for drivers for years to come.
With gratitude, we wish Ed a happy retirement and appreciation for all he has done for Roberge Transport and the clients we haul for.
